I imagine that if I created a circle and at the center were the words love and kindness and I asked people to step into the circle that believed in practicing love and kindness towards each other – I know that the majority of people would step in regardless of religious beliefs, political belief, race or any other difference. The truth is I am friends with people from all walks of life with different beliefs and I respect and honor them for who they are and what they believe. I have always sought out ways to build bridges to others, to seek out a common ground, to find a way to work together for the common good.
I am not here to convince anyone of what they should believe for I do truly believe that each of us is entitled to our own opinion and what we want to believe.  Being an AFS exchange student my last year of high school to Brisbane, Australia – I was so fortunate to be there with 250 other exchange students from all over the world. I really loved this experience to learn from them, their customs, their beliefs, and about their view of the world. AFS was founded in WWI and WWII by the AFS Ambulance Drivers from France and the United States that wanted to make sure that the atrocities committed in war would be put to an end. They realized that from cross-cultural exchanges – understanding of each other would happen and peace would be possible.
This is what I feel the world desperately needs right now – is more understanding of each other, more loving kindness and peace.  So I feel called to action to serve as a bridge of loving kindness to help bring people together to take the time to understand each other and start from this common ground of love and kindness and to remember no matter what we believe – we can to support each other so we can all have better lives and make the world a better place. I also feel much healing needs to happen after this election – where we can all remember that we are all connected and are here to support one another.  This is an opportunity to come together and work together, so I invite you to do that with me. Let’s start with first focusing on being thoughtful and respectful of one another. Let’s open up the dialogue to see where we can work together and how we can support each other.
