When I spoke with Stedman Graham and Steve Farber at Leadership Success Day for the Community Alliance for Youth Success – Youth Success Week this past February – a bright happy spirit walked up to me and said how much she enjoyed my talk and would love to connect – that was Chris Atley. We have come to find out what kindred spirits we are – both of us committed to and passionate about doing what we love in all areas of our lives and helping others do the same. Below you can be inspired by this bright spirit’s journey and how you can do what you love in all areas of your life.
1) What is your Passion + Purpose = World Change formula
Doing what you love in all areas of life. When we do what we love, our vibration raises and we start to see solutions and the “how” to make our big dreams happen. We essentially become more resourceful. This is why self-care is so important. It helps us to gain clarity and confidence, which then naturally leads to making big things happen!
2) How did you uncover your passion and purpose?
Through a series of saying yes. After my Dad died unexpectedly, I was left feeling pretty angry. I had been searching for a new career that I was passionate about beforehand after feeling burned out in my insurance career, but couldn’t find what it was. After my Dad passed, I was trying to figure out why we are all here and what the meaning of life was essentially – but in a pretty miserable way, not a fun, find your purpose type of way! A couple months later, I was in an especially good mood after going to lunch with a friend, and decided to watch the movie the Secret. It forever changed my life, and put me on a journey of saying yes to the dreams deep in my heart, like moving from Canada to California. I discovered coaching along the way and dove in head first!
3) What steps did you take to live your passion and purpose?
I decided to hire my own coach after learning about coaching to make sure it was a good fit. I ended up making huge life changes as a result, and from there totally believed in the process. I enrolled in a coach training, and soon after started my own business while weaning out of my insurance career. I was able to fully end that career, which was the scariest decision I’ve ever made and the best one at the same time :-).
4) I talk a lot about putting together the pieces of your passion puzzle to create the life of your dreams? How do you feel that you have done this?
Since making a career change, I have since learned to follow my heart in all areas of life including business. If it feels off I don’t do it, even if my mind wants to talk me into it. I’ve learned those “red flag” feelings always turn out to be right. When I follow my heart and make decisions from that place, anything and everything is possible. My biggest and wildest dreams have come to fruition because of this process. I make the decision first, then allow the way to be shown to me second – each and every step always is. Third, I take inspired action to bring each step to fruition. I continue to say yes no matter how scary it feels at the time. I’ve learned to become “comfortable feeling uncomfortable”!! I have also done a lot of work on being able to receive and to get out of my own way. That is the only things standing in-between our dreams – ourselves. This is a continuous work in progress 😉
5) What advice do you have for others who are looking to uncover and live their passion and purpose?
Give yourself permission to do what you really love first. Many people I work with don’t see how they can make their big dreams happen and therefore stop themselves right then and there. Give yourself permission, and worry about the how later. Know you are worthy enough of making whatever you want happen. You may disappoint some people, but that’s okay. My motto is that it’s better to manage the fear while following our dreams, instead of managing the regret of not trying later. From there, keep saying yes and practice trusting in something bigger then you, that is guiding you and helping you make it happen! Because it is 😉
