I was describing a dream to a dear friend of mine Amanda and she said “That dream is amazing – you have to share that dream with the Master Dream Interpreter Michael Sheridan”, so I did. What unfolded was such confirmation and insights into my own Passion + Purpose = World Change journey as well as led me to making an amazing connection to a like minded soul. I was/am fascinated by Michael’s gifts and wisdom and I was truly curious about how did he discover that dream interpretation was his own Passion + Purpose = World Change formula – so I asked him to please share his journey with all of you below to inspire you to follow your own dreams – I mean if Michael can go from software engineer to dream interpreter – anything is possible :). If you want to see Michael in action – here we are on this show “So You Think You Are Awake” where he analyses three of my dreams. I am forever grateful to my friend Amanda for this introduction to Michael. Thank you Michael for following your passion and purpose and helping to make this world a better place and all with your deep wisdom, huge heart, super cool Irish accent and hilarious humor :).
1) What is your Passion + Purpose = World Change formula?
Dream analysis + Helping people discover and live their life purpose = A better world for everyone!!
When people talk about their dreams, they rarely mean the ones they have at night. But those dreams are my passion. I help people discover their life purpose by interpreting their dreams. But not just their life purpose. Their dreams also tell me the gifts they brought with them to help achieve that purpose. That, and a whole lot more!
People get so wrapped up in living their lives, that they often don’t realize why they are living them in the first place. They focus on making ends meet, or worse, get stuck on autopilot until they hit a bump in the road. But that bump could be the best thing that ever happened to them, because it creates an opportunity to wake up, by stopping and questioning life. Bumps cause us to ask, “Why am I here?” or “What do I do now?” Dreams are when God talks back. Most people are unaware of this, and that’s what I want to change.
Technically, dreams are a dialogue between your higher-self and your soul. I used to somewhat hide the spiritual aspect of what I do, but in the 27 years I’ve been doing this, people have become more spiritually aware. So now, I’m out of the closet!
People on a spiritual path are often considered selfish because they are internally guided and don’t necessarily respond to expectations others put on them. However, if everyone was selfishly pursuing their spiritual direction, there would be a lot less conflict and a lot more harmony. So, ultimately it is not selfish.
2) How did you uncover your passion and purpose?
My discovery process was somewhat unconventional. It started with me suddenly being able to see spirits! When it initially happened, I didn’t believe in the spirit world and the whole experience was very distressing. It set me on a path of spiritual discovery. I read voraciously and did lots of spiritual development courses – always looking, but never finding the meaning of my experiences.
It culminated with me being led to do a dream interpretation course. I was unwillingly dragged there by my sister but on the first night I was blown away by the analysis of just one of my dreams. It was so accurate and profound. It even revealed that I was born through cesarean section! I’d been searching for answers to my questions and it turned out that I had access to them the entire time, through my dreams!
Right from the beginning, dreams just made perfect sense to me. I plagued everyone I knew to give me their dreams, so I could practice analyzing them. I loved how comprehensively they commented on a person’s life. Blunt, honest and pulling no punches.
3) What steps did you take to live your passion and purpose?
I did a few things simultaneously. My enthusiasm for dream interpretation was infectious. I created a website! This was back before the internet had really taken off. My first site went live in 1996. Website editors didn’t exist then, so I had to manually create the pages. My background is in computers, so I enjoyed that. I’ve continued to add to the website over the years and it has grown into nearly a thousand pages! It’s undergoing an overhaul today. http://www.dream-analysis.com
With encouragement, I started teaching classes, running exhibitions and giving talks. I loved the reactions to my courses and talks. People were always stunned at how much an interpretation resonates with their life and actually answers their big questions – even the ones they forgot to ask! To convince skeptics, I began showing participants how to see the aura and spirits.
Pretty soon I got interviewed on TV. That was scarier than seeing the spirits! I became a regular guest on radio shows doing weekly spots where I interpreted callers’ dreams live. I also got a regular spot on TV. They ran for years until I left Ireland. When I moved to Seattle I began hosting my own weekly radio show on KKNW. After two years I moved it to YouTube and enhanced it with visual elements. Each show takes nearly three days to produce and edit.
I began writing a newsletter about dream interpretation and built up a following of 10,000 subscribers. In 2007 I quit my job and self-funded writing my first book. Given the wealth of newsletters I’d already written, I knew I could finish it in 3 months. Not so! It took 9! I’m immensely proud of the book – even its long title: How To Interpret Your Dreams And Discover Your Life Purpose. The original version is full color, with dreams written out on treasure maps.
I’ve always been asked to talk about my experiences with seeing spirits, so in 2016 I wrote a second book, My Journey to Awakening. There is more of me and my sense of humor in that shorter book. My intention with it is to open the reader up to how involved the spirit world is in our lives.
I continue to teach dream classes, both in-person and in a 7-week online course. A former student, Holly Betros – an expert in online course development, is currently helping me to enhance and extend my course content.
4) I talk a lot about putting together the pieces of your passion puzzle to create the life of your dreams? How do you feel that you have done this?
You could call it blind luck or serendipity, but between you and me – I got pushed! I didn’t set out to see spirits but that is the trigger that led me to the work I do today. I realize it needed to be that way for me. I was a skeptic for so many years and because of that, I have tremendous patience with skeptics. Plus, it made me break dream interpretation down in such a way that you couldn’t argue with it.
Serendipity continued when my sister dragged me to my first dream interpretation class. When I got called for my first TV interview. When the host of my first radio interview coached me on how to be successful on radio. When my wife and sisters organized the first class I taught. When the sale of property allowed me to self-fund my first book. When I got regular spots on TV and radio.
I simply promised my guides that I would always show up willing to do the work. Oh yeah, that and listening to my own dreams!
Everyone who knows me has been infected by my passion for dream analysis. Friends and family all approach me with their dreams because they know how accurate it is.
5) What advice do you have for others who are looking to uncover and live their passion and purpose?
Really? Did you even read the answers to 1 through 4? Just kidding. I would say to follow your dreams you need to follow your dreams! The answers to all your questions about health, wealth, healing, life purpose, spiritual gifts, and so much more are all revealed in your dreams. When you start listening, your life immediately begins to improve.
I will add this. It is possible to be passionate about something that is not meant for you. When that is the case, your dreams will attempt to correct your compass. That is just as important.
The answers to your life questions are given to you each night, ironically hidden right before your eyes. You don’t need to learn the language of dreams for this nightly process to work. It will continue throughout your life, but it is your choice whether it remains under your radar. Through dreams your higher self wants you to awaken and discover your true nature. If you put a little effort into learning their language – your soul’s language – you will be amazed at what you learn about yourself.
