Have you have been thinking that you have all of the boxes checked off to find your dream career, but you aren’t getting the results you want? And why is that?

Does your checklist look like this:

✔Resume

✔LinkedIn Profile

✔An idea of what your dream career is

✔Applying online for opportunities that line up for your dream career

What we know at Careers with Wings after helping 100’s of people land their dream career is that while all of these are important, we have found that there is a lot more than just that check boxes above that will help you land your dream career.

Here are the checkboxes that we develop with our clients to help them land their dream career.

✔Self-Love: Yes we know you are thinking what does self-love have to do with landing your dream career. Well actually it has everything to do with it. We have found that this is the number one thing that blocks our clients from their dream career. When you fall in love with yourself and who you are, your self-confidence increases, which leads to nailing the interview. Also self-love helps you get more clarity about what your dream career is and how you want to create both your career and life

✔Self-Care: So often clients come to us beaten down and exhausted. They stop doing what they normally do to take care of themselves. For example, one of our clients stopped his daily walk when he came to us. It was amazing when he put this back into his day, how much he energy and self-confidence increased.

✔Trust Your Gut/Believe in Yourself: There are going to be so many naysayers out there who are going to say your dream can’t be possible. It is up to you to have the courage to believe in you and your dreams.

✔Support Team: It is vital to surround yourself with people who also believe in you and positive role models to support you on your journey. It is a series of ups and downs going after your dream job – it is important to have support especially when you have those challenging days.

✔Clarity/Big Vision: A big mistake we see people make is to not look at how they want all areas of their life to look and how their dream career fits into that. We have seen some people who have gone after what they thought was their dream career and realize that it actually creating chaos in all other areas of their life. So make sure you make a vision of how you want all areas of your life to look first and make sure that your dream career works in harmony with all other areas.

✔Network: It is the old adage it is not what you know, it is who you know. And yes your skillset is important, but even more important than that is who you know. So if you don’t know anyone in your dream career area, start building your connections via people you do know who can make introductions, go to events to meet people in the area of your interest, volunteer. If you are spending the majority of your time applying online, you are wasting your time. There is about a 1-10% chance of you landing a job this way. Get connected.

✔Rock Solid Tailored Branding: Yes of course, resume and LinkedIn are important, but what is more important is all of the above. A big mistake I see in this area is that people do not tailor their resume/LinkedIn/cover letters enough. Take the time to tailor each one of these specially for the opportunities you are going after.
